A facility for high yield (mg/h) production of size-selected, high purity metal nanoparticles Assessment

The MegaDMA of RAMEM is being tested at the BigMAG facility of the Institute for Nanostructures and Technology (NST) of the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany)

Metallic titanium aerosols are generated by electrical discharge (spark, mini-arc,…) in an inert gas stream at flow rates of 100 to 300 slpm.
Aerosols with mean size 40-50 nm have been obtained so far. Particles are bipolarly charged and show multiple charge states.
Feasibility of the High Flow DMA has been demonstrated through mobility classification of these particles.
Next steps will decrease particle size and charge state in order to get monodisperse size distributions.

Size distribution of particles of mobility Z=6,66·10-3 cm2/(V·s) classified by the MegaDMA (V=-7,5 kV). Peaks correspond to NPs of different sizes & charge states.
